Printmaking
My printmaking practice is deeply rooted in the natural world, not just as subject matter, but as a source of rhythm, symbolism, and storytelling. I gravitate toward bold compositions that blend organic forms with cultural motifs, often using anthropomorphic figures and symbolic imagery to explore the relationship between nature and identity.
Stylistically, my work combines vibrant color palettes with strong line work and layered textures, drawing from both traditional and contemporary printmaking techniques. Nature influences my aesthetic choices, from the rugged contours of desert landscapes to the intricate patterns found in bones, plants, and animals. These elements serve as visual metaphors, allowing me to reflect on themes of transformation, resilience, and connection.
Rather than depicting nature in a literal sense, I use it as a lens through which to examine human experience. The result is a body of work that feels both grounded and imaginative, where the natural world is not just observed, but embodied.
"Crocodile Cowboy" blends bold graphic illustration with surreal symbolism. The anthropomorphic crocodile dressed in Western attire stands as a fusion of human and animal, reflecting the wild, untamed spirit of the Texan landscape. Natural elements like cacti and the bull skull reinforce themes of survival and ruggedness. The vibrant palette and stylized composition evoke folklore and regional identity, using nature as both character and setting.
"Skull and Artifacts" evokes themes of mortality, memory, and cultural legacy. The realistic rendering and use of natural materials: bones, beads, and textures, highlight nature’s role in shaping human history. This piece invites reflection on the cycles of life and the enduring presence of nature in ritual and identity.
"Bull-Headed Cowboy" features a bull-headed figure in Western dress, merging animal strength with human identity. The bright sky and celestial backdrop suggest a mythic connection to nature, while the bull’s presence symbolizes endurance and power. The stylized lines and bold colors create a dynamic visual language that celebrates the fusion of rural heritage and natural symbolism.
"Locked Lollipop" rendered in stark monochrome, this emotionally charged print uses candy imagery to explore themes of rejection and emotional defense. The heart-shaped lollipop locked shut, surrounded by harsh messages, symbolizes the tension between vulnerability and protection. Though less literal in its use of nature, the organic shapes and raw emotional tone echo the unpredictability and intensity found in natural cycles.
